Not that a rough diamond can't be beautiful in its own right, but the cut is what brings out the gem's unique luster. Some cuts already have food-inspired names — like a pear or baguette cut — but the snack brand Angie's Boomchickapop believes they've just added a new shape to the diamond cutting pantheon: the popcorn cut.

The popcorn specialists at Angie's Boomchickapop have teamed up with jewelry designer Stephanie Gottlieb to create what the pair is billing as the first-ever "popcorn-cut diamond ring" that is "perfect for popping the questions" and will make for an "eye-popping engagement ring." (Thankfully, the puns slowed down after that.)

To get the shape right, Gottlieb says her master diamond cutters started with a massive 11 carat natural minded rough diamond that was then trimmed down to its final 3.66 carat popcorn look before being polished and set in a yellow gold bezel and band. Finally, hammering the popcorn theme home, the jeweler says the stone's Y-Z color nears the "fancy yellow" category on the official GIA Color Scale which brings a buttered popcorn-esque light yellow hue to the diamond.

"Over the past few years, we've seen an increase in demand for custom, unexpected and personal engagement ring designs," Gottlieb stated. "Collaborating with Angie's Boomchickapop on this never-before-seen ring means bringing a touch of whimsy to a milestone moment in a couple's life, and we can't wait to be a part of that."

As for the final price tag, consider it more movie theater than microwave: The rings can be custom ordered for a limited time at StephanieGottlieb.com starting at $50,000 with prices varying depending on the diamond cost. However, for all of that cheddar, the ring also comes with a custom ring box hand-painted by Danielle Becker Stern, founder of the creative studio Lefty's Right Mind.

From there, you just have to hope your significant other really likes you... and popcorn.
