Showers today before a calm midweek

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Tuesday, Utah! It’s been an active start to the week, and we’ll see more showers today as a trough moves through the Beehive State.

After seeing some lake effect and lake enhanced showers this morning, we’ll see scattered showers throughout the day.

Staying unsettled with lingering showers

Through the afternoon, we’ll mainly see valley rain and mountain snow, however, there will be some snow and graupel potential in our valleys, especially for stronger showers. The best chance of wet weather will be in northern Utah, but isolated showers will also be possible south of I-70.

Outside of any wet weather, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy, and it will be breezy today as well. When it comes to additional snow, some mountains may receive several inches, plus while mountain valleys could see some accumulations of around a few inches.

For valleys and benches, any accumulations would be minor, but that doesn’t mean we may not see some dicey road conditions in spots. You can expect daytime highs to mirror what we saw yesterday, with temperatures running between five and ten degrees below seasonal norms.

The Wasatch Front will see highs tops out in the mid to upper 40s, with a few spots making the run for 50 degrees. Down south, you can expect highs to range a little warmer in the 40s and 50s for most while St. George attempts to get into the low 60s yet again.

Tonight, the chance of wet weather will go down across the board as overnight lows head into the 20s and 30s for most outside of St. George where we’ll be around 40.

As we head into the middle of the week, high pressure will briefly build in, resulting in drier conditions and a mix of sun and clouds across the state as daytime highs get fairly close to where they should be this time of year.

Calm skies aren’t likely to stick around long, though, because by the end of the workweek, we’ll start to feel the influence of our next system. An upper-level low pressure off the west coast will send energy and moisture through our neighborhood both Thursday and Friday resulting in a chance of isolated showers, mainly in northern Utah.

With the southwest flow, temperatures will also climb to near or even slightly above seasonal norms. This increase in temps will allow for the precipitation type in valleys to be mainly rain, and wet weather potential will spike statewide into the Easter weekend as the storm starts to move through.

We’ll continue to fine tune the details of the Easter Weekend forecast and keep you posted! Stay tuned to your 4Warn Forecast both on-air and online. We are Good4Utah!
