Showing some color: Trees beginning to brighten up

The fall leaves are quickly showing their colors in the area.

As of Thursday, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources listed the Wayne and Holmes area as "changing," which means still mostly green, with about 25 percent of the foliage showing color.

“The wide-ranging fall color reports statewide are due to the weather patterns throughout the year with some areas of the state seeing more rain than others,” ODNR Fall Color Forester David Parrott said on the ODNR website. “Current changes include black walnut showing brilliant yellows and sycamores ablaze in oranges and yellows. Even our state native fruit bearing tree, the pawpaw, is showing its yellows.”

As the weather changes, so do the leaves.

According to the National Weather Service, the forecast for Friday is a high of 66 with a chance of rain around 2 a.m. The low will be about 50 degrees.

Rain and a thunderstorm are possible Saturday with a high of 60 degrees, the NWS forecast. The chance of precipitation is 100%. The low Saturday will be around 46 degrees.
