Nov. 13—This Friday and Saturday, Greenville Family Theater will present its production of "The Secret Garden" at the Greenville Municipal Auditorium.

Based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, this musical adaptation of "The Secret Garden" is set in the late 19th- to early 20th century and is about a young spoiled girl named Mary who was neglected by her parents but waited on hand and foot by servants until both of her parents died from cholera.

She then moves to her uncle's house, which has a hidden garden on its grounds that he has kept locked since his wife (Mary's aunt) died a few years before.

Mary eventually finds the hidden key and door to the garden, which she and some friends she meets at her new home work to restore.

Themes in "The Secret Garden" include healing, growth, the power of mindset and the meaning of friendship.

Each year, Greenville Family Theater has been staging large-scale musical productions that showcase the talents of young actors, singers and dancers aged 25 and younger.

For "The Secret Garden," Katy Selph leads the cast as Mary. The rest of the principal and main supporting cast are Marshall Clements, Clara Ingram, Michael Hale, Charlie Wesson, Hannah Johnson, Barrett Clements, Rosealyn Langham and Angelina Loya, followed by an ensemble cast of nearly 20 young performers.
