Shred bags available at Dalton Library Branch

A new supply of shred bags has arrived at the Dalton Branch of the Wayne County Public Library for the fundraising project sponsored by Dalton Friends of the Library. Library Friends receive a portion of the proceeds from every bag sold, enabling the group to fund special library programs and materials.

Shred bags, which remain $8 each, can hold up to two banker boxes of paper or up to 50 pounds. Bags can be purchased at the library desk 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday; and noon-6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

The Reed company continues to work with the Dalton Friends but no longer provides a truck to pick up bags sold in Dalton. Customers can take their filled, sealed bags to the Reed Warehouse facility at 2730 Akron Road, Wooster, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays or call 330-439-0005 to make an appointment for drop off.

Not only do shred bags enable safe disposal of confidential materials, they also help protect the environment. After secure, on-site shredding in Wooster, the paper is dissolved in an acid bath at a Medina County facility. The pulp is then used to manufacture low-grade paper material including paper towels and napkins.

For the past six years, shred bag sales have been the primary fundraiser for Dalton Friends of the Library. Dalton Friends president, Melody Snure, said proceeds have funded front porch library benches, children’s room materials, a speaker system for outdoor programs, prizes for library reader challenges, seasonal decorations and other needs not included in the library’s budget.

Further information is available at the Dalton Branch of the Wayne County Public Library, 127 S. Church St., Dalton, or by calling the library at 330-828-8486.
