Shreveport anti-abortion advocate, community servant Flo Alexander dies at 90

Florina “Flo” Ann Roy Alexander, a Shreveport-Bossier resident known for her advocacy and service to the community died recently at the age of 90.

Alexander was a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, and moved to Shreveport in the 1960s to host KTAL Calling on channel 6. During that show, she interviewed TV personalities of the day.

While finding her place in Shreveport, Alexander met A.G. “Ladd” Alexander, Jr. They later married and welcomed 12 children into the world.

Alexander infused her Christian Catholic faith into everything she did.  In 1973, Alexander along with elected leaders founded the area's first crisis pregnancy center.

Alexander was a trailblazer in the anti-abortion movement at the local, state, and national levels. Earlier this year she was honored with the Pro-Life Legacy Award by the Republican Party of Louisiana for her many decades of service to the anti-abortion cause.

Alexander is survived by her 12 children, 40 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Her son Royal Alexander said, "my mother, a remarkable and resilient woman, passed away last week at 90 years old after a lifetime of mothering, advocacy, and service." Alexander died Dec. 19.
