Shreveport Biscuit Company expanding to a brick and mortar

As Kanya Michelle walks through the empty rooms at 3311 Line Ave. she already knows what it will look like because she has been thinking about it for a while. Like all the decisions she has made for her Shreveport Biscuit Company, she has taken her time. As her business and life partner Paul Loggins said, “There is such a thing as going too fast.”

Michelle sometimes allows herself to think ‘big’. She likes the idea of selling her biscuits all over the state, having people come to Shreveport just for them, but she quickly moves back to the task at hand, which is the opening of her market, not just for her biscuits, but other local products.

“I'm excited about having a lot of local people also being involved in the space. I'm not the kind of person to just do me by myself, I want to bring my friends along,” said Michelle.

What she envisions is a store in the front room with a display filled with her biscuits, like a donut shop. Yet the store will be more than that, there will be other products from locals like Mahaffey Farms.

It’s these community connections, built in part from her time spent at the Farmer’s Market, that Michelle wants to grow. For someone who moved around a lot as a child, Michelle feels she finally found her community after living in Shreveport for several years.

It is here that Michelle has honed the one quality she thinks is a must for a business owner, confidence, or as she says, “Confidence in yourself that you can handle whatever is thrown at you.”

Loggins thinks one of their keys to success is the ability for them to adapt, “We're always changing and evolving”. From selling orders on Instagram, meeting for pickups in a parking lot, to navigating the world of popups each experience has helped shape who they have become.

For now, it’s the small quaint shop on Line Ave. that sells a variety of local items, but there are no limits to what it may become.
