Shreveport doctor dies in airplane crash in Nebraska

An airplane crash in McCook, Nebraska left a Shreveport man dead.

According to the City of McCook, just before noon on Oct. 30, McCook dispatch received reports of an airplane crash less than a mile away from McCook Ben Nelson Regional Airport.

Upon arrival, first responders located two occupants, one of whom was dead and the other injured.

It was later released by the Red Willow County Coroner that the individual who was pronounced dead at the scene was Dr. Clifton Coffman, 79, of Shreveport.

Coffman has been working in the Shreveport-Bossier area for the last 53 years as a Diagnostic Radiology specialist. He served as Willis Knighton Medical Center's Chief Radiologist for more than 25 years and was currently working with Red River Consultants.

In a statement Jaf Fielder, president and CEO of Willis-Knighton Health System said,

"The Willis-Knighton family was saddened to learn of the tragic death of Dr. Cliff Coffman, who was a member of our medical staff for 45 years. He was a pioneer and advocate for the diagnostic technology we offer today, helping us to advance and grow as the most technologically advanced referral source for the region. Dr. Coffman was not only a trusted physician but a loyal friend and advocate for Willis-Knighton. He will be greatly missed."

On the Red River Consultants website, Coffman's biography said his personal interests included traveling and flying.

The airplane was registered to a Shreveport company called Procoff LLC.

According to the City of McCook, the crash remains under investigation.
