Shreveport kicks off Mardi Gras in the cold with Krewe of Sobek parade in Queensborough

The temperature was 39 degrees, the wind made it feel colder, but it did not stop people from getting out onto the streets of Shreveport's Queensborough neighborhood to watch the Krewe of Sobek parade Saturday afternoon.

Woodlawn's marching band started the parade off followed by krewe floats, cheerleading squads, police officers, fraternities and other community members to throw beads and candy to the crowds.

Among the crowd was 7-year-old Mari Thomas. It was her first time at the Sobek parade and she excitedly grabbed for beads, reached for the candy and jumped for the stuffed animals.

The Krewe of Sobek parade was the first parade of Mardi Gras season in the city.
