Shreveport mayor Adrian Perkins appeared in court Monday afternoon to answer a claim that he should be disqualified from the 2022 elections because he listed the wrong address on his qualifying application.

The plaintiff, Francis Deal, provided evidence they say proves Perkins violated a rule requiring candidates to register for office using the address they have registered for a homestead exemption.

Perkins has a homestead exemption registered but registered to vote using a different Shreveport address.

In court Monday, Deal’s attorneys asked Perkins if he read the guidelines saying he must file with his homestead exemption. Perkins said he may have missed that part of the guidelines because he was in a rush to register as a candidate and distracted by news cameras in his face.

Judge Brady O’Callaghan said a decision will be delivered at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Caddo Parish Courthouse.
