Shreveport police officer arrested in connection with the shooting death of Alonzo Bagley resigns

Alonzo Bagley, 43, was shot and killed earlier this month after police responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Villa Norte Apartment Complex in the 1600 block of Fullerton Street.

On Friday, March 17, Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux and Police Chief Wayne Smith were notified that Officer Alexander Tyler has resigned from the Shreveport Police Department.

According to the press release, the decision was made entirely by Tyler and his attorney.

Tyler was allegedly involved in a shooting on Feb. 3 that resulted in the death of Alonzo Sentell Bagley, 43.

Around 10:51 p.m. that evening, two Shreveport Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Villa Norte Apartment Complex in the 1600 block of Fullerton St.

Did Shreveport officer Alexander Tyler have a history of being involved in chases?

Tyler was a taken on a short foot trace when Bagley exited the apartment via the balcony. Tyler made contact with Bagley when he rounded the corner of the building and fired a single shot that struck Bagley in the chest.

Tyler attempted to perform lifesaving aid to Bagley until the Shreveport Fire Department arrived and transported Bagley to Ochsner LSU Health where he was later pronounced dead.

Following the shooting, Louisiana State Police took over the investigation.

Tyler was arrested in connection with the death of Bagley on February 16. LSP said that Tyler was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on the charge of Negligent Homicide. He bonded out later that day.

In the release, LSP provided video body footage of Tyler firing his weapon at Bagley and performing aid after the incident. Tyler can be heard saying, "no man, no man, come on dude." The "critical incident community briefing video" was created by LSP and is posted on YouTube. The video contains graphic pictures and language.
