The Sturgis track and field teams welcomed in four different schools on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.

The Trojan boys competed against all four separate schools and won over Niles 78.5-49.5, Edwardsburg 65-63 and Allegan 71-57. Otsego got the best of the Trojans, 84-44.

“We have raced our main varsity contributors hard nearly all season. As we approach the championship part of the season we decided to give our kids a rest from racing four events per meet,” Trojan coach JB Starkey said. “It's surprising we finished so well as a team against some really great programs.”

The depth of the team was shown on Tuesday night. With the Trojans resting some of their best, they were still able to pick up three victories.

“With our studs out of events/races tonight, it was so great to see our other guys step up to compete against some of these teams' best athletes, very promising for the future of this team going forward,” Starkey said. “We are entering the conference championship with second overall finish in dual meets. Very exciting what these guys can do with a week of training and a little rest.”

Jamiel Brown leaped to first place in the long jump. He cleared a distance of 19-6 feet.
