SHS teams swept by Vicksburg

Vicksburg won a pair of games over Sturgis in prep softball action on Monday.

The Lady Bulldogs earned the wins by scores of 18-1 and 15-0.

In the opener, Kennedy Finnerman walked and scored the lone Sturgis run in the second inning. Kaela Kimes knocked in the run for the Trojans.

During the second game, Sturgis got a double from Leah Yunker in the first inning. It was the only hit for Sturgis in the opening four innings. In the fifth, Sturgis put together a little rally to start with back-to-back hits from Aubrey Mealor and Madison Webb. Unfortunately for the Trojans, they were not able to score or continue the rally.

The Sturgis baseball team dropped a pair of games to Vicksburg on Monday afternoon.

The Bulldogs won the games 9-0 and 13-3.

In the opener, Vicksburg posted two in the second, third and sixth innings plus three in the fourth.

The Trojans collected three hits in the game. Gibson Cary had two of them, including a double. Dakota Luca also had a base hit in the game.

Taner Patrick tossed the opening three innings for SHS, he struck out one. Zach Green and Wyatt Dudek also pitched in the game. Collectively, they allowed only four earned runs.

The Trojans put up a run in the first inning of the second game. Luce singled and brought home Patrick for the run.

Sturgis’ lead would grow to 3-0 after the top of the third. There, Hunter Kosmerick belted a single that scored both Luce and Green.

Unfortunately for the Trojans, it would be their final runs of the game. Vicksburg answered with three in the home half of that inning, then scored four times in the fourth, five times in the fifth and once more in the sixth.

Kosmerick finished with the two hits and two RBI, Luce clubbed two singles and drove in one.

Green and Cary each had a single in the game.

Luce, Matt Wynes, Dudek and Gavyn Moore combined to strike out two.
