SHS tennis beats Plainwell, 8-0

The Sturgis tennis team picked up an 8-0 victory on the road on Tuesday.

The Lady Trojans beat Plainwell in the match. It was originally scheduled to take place on Monday, but inclement weather pushed it back 24 hours. This did not bother Sturgis as the Trojans brought home the impressive win.

Sturgis won seven of eight matches in straight sets. The lone match to go three sets was at first doubles. There, the SHS team of Johanna Rooyakkers and Maddie Golden won over Drue Fontaine and Grace Carlyle. They dropped the first set 6-1, but SHS battled back to win the next two at 6-1 and 10-8.

In first singles action, Rylee Carver cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Maggie Zhu.

Emily Schuller knocked off Ellery Troff with scores of 6-0, 6-1 at second singles while Tess Scheske beat Brooke Pazderka with scores of 6-1 and 6-0.

Gracie Perry won her match at fourth singles. She beat Autumn Gravelyn 6-1, 6-0.

Katherine Steele and Ava Stewart won with double bagels at second doubles. They beat Anna Hall and Claire Pipcorn 6-0, 6-0.

Bella Currier and Rosa Soto won their match at third doubles, beating Ava Stanton and Emerson Rentfrow 6-3, 6-2. Fourth doubles action saw Sturgis' team of Lauren Whitehead and Chloe Clark win over Eyn Poel and Maria Jackson 6-2, 6-0.

In junior varsity action, Sturgis won the match 8-0 as well.
