For the first time in nearly 20 years, a new musical fueled by country songs is sprouting up on Broadway.

The musical comedy "Shucked" is set begin previews March 8 at New York's Nederlander Theatre — located on West 41st Street, you could almost call it "Lower Broadway."

The show bills itself as a "corn-fed, corn-bred American musical" that's "sure to satisfy your appetite for great musical theater."

Take note, however, that "Shucked" packs some serious songwriting talent. Music and lyrics were written by Grammy-winning Nashville songsmiths Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, who've both worked extensively with Kacey Musgraves, on top of penning dozens of hits for the likes of Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire and Keith Urban.

Clark and McAnally, along with book writer Robert Horn, were all previously involved in a 2015 musical adaptation of "Hee Haw." "Moonshine: The Hee Haw Musical" was staged in Texas, but did not make the leap to Broadway.

"Shucked" appears to share a fair amount of DNA with its predecessor — down to the cornfield backdrop — but is not affiliated with the brand.

The show recently shared a video of McAnally and Clark performing one of their compositions, "Maybe Love." It's a tender ballad with a touch of '70s countrypolitan style, and uses the show's crop metaphors to craft something decidedly un-corny — downright moving, in fact.

By our count, "Shucked" is the first country musical to be staged on Broadway since the short-lived Johnny Cash musical "Ring of Fire," which opened and closed in 2006. Before that, a 2003 jukebox musical inspired by "Urban Cowboy" had a less than three-month run.

Last year, the hit-filled country musical "May We All" — produced by Florida Georgia Line's Brian Kelley — premiered at Nashville's Tennessee Performing Arts Center, with plans for a tour and concept album.

Other country-themed productions have been announced for Broadway in the past decade, but have not made it to the stage.

In 2012, Zooey Deschanel joined Loretta Lynn on stage at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium to announce she would be starring in a Broadway adaptation of "Coal Miner's Daughter." It was never produced. Plans for a Broadway show based on the "Nashville" TV series were unveiled in 2019, but there have been no further announcements.
