Someone stole a catalytic converter early Thursday morning at the 200 block of Brooklyn Avenue from one of its vans around 6:15 a.m., according to the COO of Agape Distribution.

It took two thieves just seven minutes to cut the converter off the van and leave, Jeffrey McAtee told News Center 7.

He said while it will be hard for the food bank to recover financially from the theft, it is also impacting the families it serves.

“You know, it takes us $8.40 to feed a family of four for a week,” said McAtee. “The repairs are going to cost us over $2,000 to repair this thing, So, that’s hundreds of families that are going to be affected by this one theft.”

The thieves also tried to steal a generator but could not since it was welded in place, McAtee said.
