Are you signed up to vote? Clerk plans 'registration blitz' ahead of Tuesday deadline

The next general election is about a month away and will feature several prominent ballot items – including the governor's race, five other constitutional offices and three Louisville Metro Council seats.

But time is ticking away to register to vote.

Jefferson County citizens must sign up by 4 p.m. Tuesday to be eligible to cast their votes for the Nov. 7 election.

From now until Tuesday, the Jefferson County Clerk's Office will be hosting voter events at each of the eight Motor Vehicle Branch locations in the county, with dedicated areas for citizens to register to vote. It will culminate on Tuesday with a "voter registration blitz" where there will be tables set up with clerk's office employees to answer questions about the election and aid with registration.

These locations are:

  • Dixie Branch: 4919-F Dixie Highway

  • Downtown Branch: First Trust Center, 200 S. Fifth St., Suite 228 South

  • East Branch: Middletown Plaza, 12312-A Shelbyville Road

  • Fairdale Branch: Fairdale Playtorium, 10616 West Manslick Road

  • Highview Branch: Beulah Church Shopping Center, 7813 Beulah Church Road

  • Jeffersontown Branch: Bremer Ehrler, 10420 Watterson Trail

  • West Branch: French Plaza, 228 Amy Ave.

  • Westport Branch: 9451 Westport Road, Suite 117

The events aren't just for people who want to register for the first time, though. Voters can also change their address or political party. There will also be information available so people can learn "all they need to know" ahead of the November vote, according to a release from the clerk's office.

“We want all eligible voters to have the chance to participate in the upcoming election, and voters taking the time to ensure they’re registered is an important part of that effort,” said Bobbie Holsclaw, Jefferson County Clerk and chairperson of the Board of Elections. “We hope that offering these convenient locations across the county allows us to help community members register to vote right up to the last possible moment."

Voters can also register online or by mailing a form to your county clerk's office or the State Board of Elections at 140 Walnut St., Frankfort, KY 40601. If you want to check your registration status, you can do so at govote.ky.gov.
