79-year-old man last seen in Lincoln County found safe, deputies say

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has canceled a Silver Alert issued for a missing man last seen in Iron Station.

Curtis Lister Truitt, 79, was reported missing around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday night after he left his home earlier in the day.

Deputies said Truitt was found on the side of the road near Durham after his truck ran out of gas. He is now with a family member and is in good condition, authorities said.

He was believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment, according to the sheriff’s office.

He was last seen leaving the 5500 block of Polson Lane in Iron Station.

Deputies said he may have been traveling to Greensboro in a black 2000 Chevrolet Silverado with a license plate of HD74248.

He is described as a white man, 5′ 9″ tall and weighing about 200 pounds with gray, short hair and brown eyes. He was last known to be wearing a light blue sweatshirt and blue jeans.
