Silver Alert cancelled for Rowan County man found safe in South Carolina, officials say

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons has canceled a Silver Alert for an 87-year-old man with cognitive impairments.

James Edward Smith was found safe in South Carolina, officials told Channel 9 Thursday morning. Smith was last seen at a Novant Health Hospital off Mocksville Avenue in Salisbury.

Smith was last seen driving a tan-colored 1999 Chevrolet S-10 with an extended cab and a North Carolina license plate that reads MVR-3848.
