Silver Lake pays tribute to local Army veteran with dedication of flagpole
The Village of Silver Lake celebrated the life of U.S. Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas D. Goshen with the dedication of a flagpole at the site of the Veterans Tribute Garden on Nov. 11.
A Celebration of Life took place in Stow following the dedication ceremony.
Goshen, who grew up in the village and is the son of David and Rosalie Goshen, died in September while deployed to Eastern Europe with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) stationed at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Romania.
He graduated from The Citadel in 2004 as a Distinguished Military Graduate and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry Branch of the United States Army. After graduating from Ranger School, he went on to complete seven combat tours and serve in many distinguished infantry units, including 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), 10th Mountain Division, 75th Ranger Regiment, and 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vincenza, Italy. He also served at the Pentagon on the Joint Staff and as an associate professor of Military Science at the University of Southern California where he simultaneously earned a Master of Communication Management.
Among his awards and decorations, he earned the Bronze Star Medal with “V,” Bronze Star Medal, and Purple Heart.
Memorial donations in honor of LtC Goshen can be made to the Village of Silver Lake Veterans Tribute Garden, 2961 Kent Road, Silver Lake 44224.
