Silverton man dies in crash on Hwy 214 between Silverton and Mt. Angel

A Silverton man is dead after a crash between Silverton and Mt. Angel on Highway 214 on Wednesday morning.

According to Oregon State Police, the preliminary investigation indicated a Honda Civic, operated by a 19-year-old of Salem was traveling eastbound on Downs Road NE when the driver attempted to cross the highway. The Honda entered the roadway and struck the side of a Ford Taurus, operated by Mitchell Daniel Kuenzi, 23, of Silverton, which was traveling southbound on Highway 214, state police said.

Police said the Taurus then entered the northbound lane of the highway and was struck in the driver's side door by a Jeep Gladiator, operated by a 68-year-old Woodburn driver.

Kuenzi was declared dead at the scene and the other drivers involved received medical evaluation and treatment, state police said.

A portion of Highway 214 between Silverton and Mt. Angel was shut down for about four hours following the crash, which occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. Wednesday.
