A 27-year-old Simi Valley man died while riding a motorcycle on Highway 118 late Saturday night, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The two-vehicle accident was reported around 11:20 p.m. on the westbound highway, east of Rocky Peak Road. The area is in Los Angeles, just east of the Ventura County line and Simi Valley city limits.

The rider was on a white 2008 Suzuki GXS-R headed westbound in the left lane at high speed, according to the CHP's West Valley office. The agency's preliminary investigation indicated the rider made an "unsafe turning movement" to the right and, combined with his unsafe speed, hit the back of a blue Toyota Tundra pickup truck also headed westbound in the left lane.

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle, landing in a traffic lane.

Emergency personnel provided life-saving measures. Ventura County firefighters declared him dead at the scene shortly after 11:40 p.m.

The driver of the pickup truck, whose age and city of residence were not immediately available as of midday Sunday, was not injured, CHP officials said. No arrests were made.

The rider's name was not immediately released pending notification of family.
