Watch: See Simon Cowell for the first time since he broke his back

Simon Cowell has managed to celebrate his 61st birthday in a low-key celebration at home with close family and friends.

The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent creator has been seen for the first time since he broke his back in August in a video shared by his ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour on Instagram.

Cowell is seen sitting at a table in his Malibu home while his son Eric, six, dances around with Seymour’s daughter Coco, five, singing Happy Birthday.

Seated in a high-backed armchair, Cowell is presented with a lavish looking cream cake with three candles which he picks up to blow out in order to avoid leaning forward.

His girlfriend Lauren Silverman, 43, is heard telling Cowell he will not be able to eat the cake because of his vegan diet, but adds, “At least the kids can have it.”

Cowell appears to be drinking a smoothie and water, both with the assistance of straws.

He is recovering after undergoing surgery in August to treat a broken back and has not been seen in public since his injury.

The TV talent mogul was trying out a new electric bike at his Malibu home with his family when the incident occurred.

Cowell dated TV presenter Seymour, 48, from 2002 to 2008 and they have remained friends.

He is famous for throwing lavish parties to celebrate his birthday, often holding two celebrations – in Los Angeles and London.

Last year he cancelled his birthday party at the last minute, to focus on his busy work schedule.

He had been due to celebrate with friends and family at La Famiglia in London’s Chelsea on 30 October 2019.
