Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell has revealed his own son will be auditioning for the ITV reality competition this year.

Simon welcomed Eric, 9, with his long-time partner Lauren Silverman in 2014, who also has a son, Adam, from her first marriage to Andrew Silverman.

Like his father, Eric is set to enter the world of showbusiness as he steps in front of the judging panel this year, which includes his father as well as co-judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli.

Speaking to The Mirror, the music mogul revealed that he was dreading the youngster's audition for the popular show.

"He's decided that he's going to audition for Britain's Got Talent. That is going to be total torture," he said.

"I mean, of all the things I've ever done, this will probably be the hardest. I said because he does play drums: 'Are you going to drum?' and he said he wants to sing. I went: 'Oh God no'.”

Despite his reservations, Simon went on to say Eric is serious about having a career in music, and that he wants to be in a rock band.

Speaking previously to the publication, Simon explained how he took a break in his career last year to focus on raising his son.

"I wanted to spend more time with Eric — you only get this age once. Being able to pick him up from school every day, have dinner with him every night, all that kind of stuff, I'm able to do that now," he said.

Elsewhere, fellow judge and Heart Breakfast host Amanda shared a story about how Simon surprised students at her daughter's school.

Speaking on her radio show, Amanda said that when she was asked to judge a baking contest at the school, she decided to surprise the students with a visit from Simon.

"I was in the middle of judging them on the appearance and sort of creativity and team effort, and then I surprised everyone because my friend Simon Cowell turned up in the tent," she said.

She went on to say the children "lost their minds", adding: "He came in, armed with a fork, and then we sort of decided the winner between us based on taste."

Britain's Got Talent airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
