Simon Pegg's new movie Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose looks set to be a truly surreal adventure, going by a new preview.

The Prime Video film sees the Mission: Impossible star take on the role of "famed paranormal psychologist" Dr Nandor Fodor as he investigates the legend of an alleged talking mongoose called Gef.

Digital Spy can exclusively bring you a fresh preview of the movie, which you can watch above, as Nandor talks on the phone with Gef (voiced by author Neil Gaiman).

As he tries to communicate with the supposed talking mongoose, the psychologist is told that he is speaking with "a freak", and that Nandor would be "paralysed, petrified, mummified and turned to a pillar of salt" if he ever saw him.

"I am the fifth dimension, I am the fifth wonder of the world, I can split the atom," Gef continues to bizarrely claim, before Nandor tells the mongoose of his "sincere belief" in his existence, suggesting a meeting in person.

Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose is loosely based on the real legend of Gef, with the myth given huge tabloid coverage in 1930s Britain.

The new preview comes ahead of the movie's release on October 20, with a trailer for the film released last month.

Alongside Pegg and Gaiman, Nandor Fodor is set to star Back to the Future legend Christopher Lloyd as Dr Harry Price, The Witcher: Blood Origin's Minnie Driver as Anne, as well as Game of Thrones star Paul Kaye as Maurice.

The movie has been directed by Adam Sigal, who also wrote the screenplay.

Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose will be available to stream on Prime Video on October 20.
