A former bedside nurse from Jacksonville has been selected as the new executive director of HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital.

Simone Parlier will lead the women's and children's service lines in the position which includes pediatric and subspecialties, the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), labor and delivery, and more.

“This is my dream job, I am passionate about women’s health, especially as it relates to motherhood," Parlier said. "I have dedicated my education and career to mothers and children. This is the perfect fit.”

Parlier received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from MacMurray College and a Masters in Nursing from Benedictine University. She's worked in various nursing positions and in management at Passavant Area Hospital and Jacksonville Memorial Hospital since 2006.

During her time in Jacksonville Parlier specialized in labor and delivery, obstetrics, postpartum, nursery, and special care nursery. She said improving the care of women, children and babies in the community has always been her passion so she jumped at the opportunity to work with HSHS.

“We are so grateful to have Simone as our new executive director of women’s services and children’s hospital,” said Allison Paul, chief nursing officer of St. John’s Hospital. “Our hospital and community welcome her with open arms. We know her passion and expertise will benefit the patients we serve.”

Parlier began the position on May 1 and said listening to the needs of patients and staff has been her priority.

“The goal is to build on what's already being provided to the community and assess the needs to see if there are any other opportunities for services to improve the care,” she said.

Parlier is a member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), the Illinois Nursing Association and the American Nursing Association.
