The Simpsons is going to hit another incredible TV milestone.

The Fox animated comedy blew past the record for longest-running scripted comedy series in US history three years ago, but the latest news from its network confirms another record is on the horizon.

At the TCA press tour on Wednesday (March 3), The Simpsons creator Matt Groening announced that the show has been renewed for two more seasons — confirming it will be on the air through season 34 (via TVLine).

By hitting season 34, The Simpsons is going to surpass 750 episodes! If you're starting that rewatch-a-thon on Disney+, you should be able to catch up by the time you get your pension.

"Everyone at The Simpsons is thrilled to be renewed once more, and we are planning lots of big surprises," Groening said. "Homer will lose a hair, Milhouse will get contact lenses and Bart will celebrate his tenth birthday for the thirty-third time."

Executive producer James L Brooks also joked: "My biggest move was in the very beginning when I decided to never uncross my fingers."

The current 32nd season has been one of tremendous transition for the show, as it moved to recast characters of colour who had previously been voiced by white actors.

Last year, a spokesperson for Fox confirmed a new policy that "moving forward, The Simpsons will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters".

The first change was Alex Desert taking over the role of Homer's co-worker Carl Carlson from white actor Hank Azaria, while last weekend's featured Kevin Michael Richardson replacing Harry Shearer as Dr Hibbert.

The Simpsons is now available to watch on Disney+ in the US and the UK.
