The Simpsons voice star Hank Azaria has predicted when the show will end, and revealed if he has plans to leave the beloved animated series.

Speaking to People, Azaria, who voices Moe Szyslak, Chief Wiggum and Comic Book Guy among others, said he has no current plans to leave the show.

"Well, I'd be silly to leave because they pay me, first of all," Azaria quipped.

Reflecting on the future of the show that he has been a part of since its inception in 1989, Azaria said: "I wonder about that, too."

Considering The Simpsons was renewed for season 35 and season 36 earlier this year, Azaria said he thinks it will "probably" get to season 40.

"You know, we're doing season 35 and 36. I would guess that it would probably go to 40. It seems to be doing well," Azaria admitted.

Discussing the changing standards for a successful network television show, Azaria said that The Simpsons is still doing well and there are no plans to end it just yet.

"[The] standards of what doing well means has changed so much for network television in the last 10 to 15 years," he said.

"But whatever the standards are now, we seem to be doing well. People still enjoy making it. They seem to want the show. So I imagine we keep going. The voices don't really age. So we can keep doing it. And the animation doesn't age. The animation does get better — and quicker."

Back in 2020, Azaria stepped down as the voice of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon following controversy surrounding the character.

He later apologised for his part in the racially problematic character, saying: "I apologise for my part in creating that and participating in that."

The Simpsons is available to stream in full on Disney+ now in the UK. It airs Sunday nights on Fox in the US, with the current season available to stream on Hulu with previous seasons available via Disney+.
