Sinclaire Carr: Cathey retires from conservation board

Jun. 1—After 20 years, Robert "Bob" Cathey bid farewell to his secretary position on the Haywood Soil and Water Conservation District Board, and the board welcomed county commissioner Jennifer Best to fill his spot.

A native of Haywood County, Cathey has served on numerous boards throughout his career. Bob was a U.S. Forest Service employee for 34 years, which brought excellent knowledge and skills to the district through his career experiences.

"The Haywood Soil and Water Conservation District has been blessed to have such a devoted Board member over the last 20 years to help better serve the citizens of Haywood County. Bob will truly be missed. On behalf of Haywood Soil and Water Conservation District Staff and Board, we wish him the best in his retirement," the board said in a press release.

Now, county commissioner Jennifer Best will serve the district as secretary.

Over the last year, Best has served as an associate Haywood Soil and Water Conservation District board member.

"Best has already made a tremendous impact throughout the county and the district with her knowledge and experience in agriculture practices. We would like to welcome County Commissioner Best to the Haywood Soil and Water Conservation Board of Supervisors," the board said.
