Singer Arlissa Debuts "Running" Music Video With Friend Lauren Jauregui

British-bred songstress Arlissa is ready to hit the ground running with new music. After ten years in the industry — once upon a time a signed artist molded to be a teen pop sensation — the now 25-year-old is taking the reigns of her career with a ferocity. Her latest song and video "Running," starring her good friend Lauren Jauregui, is all about agency and taking control of her own narrative.

"I was talking to Lauren who’s in the video with me about the concept, she loved it and suggested being in it which couldn’t have been any more perfect," Arlissa, who's last name is Ruppert, tells Teen Vogue. "She has such exuberant, powerful energy that I wanted to show in my video, and to play alongside such a great friend made the whole day so fun, I didn’t want it to be over!"

Directed by Dale “Rage” Resteghini, the video finds the two gal-pals knocking men over and driving wildly on a heist chase. "The video’s inspired by Thelma & Louise but I wanted it to have a significantly more positive twist to it, so don’t worry, it doesn’t end the same way," she says.

Arlissa's first hit was in 2012 with “Hard To Love Somebody” featuring Nas. After parting ways with her label, making her own music independently, and eventually getting the attention of famed producer Jonas Blue, she dropped an uptempo love song "Hearts Aint Gonna Lie" last year. She's since signed to Def Jam where she plans to release a full EP or album soon.

In the meantime, her budding fanbase can enjoy her soothing vocals and carefree expression of self-love. "I wanted the video to be empowering," Arlissa says, "and focus on strong women being in control of their life."
