Nov. 25—GRAND FORKS — Kat Perkins, a North Dakota native and former NBC's "The Voice" contestant, will bring her "North Country Christmas" show to the Empire Arts Center on Sunday, Nov. 26. It's one of the stops on her ninth annual holiday tour.

Tickets for the show, $36 each, including fees, are available for purchase online at

The new show will feature Perkins, her acoustic band, and songs from the four Christmas albums she's released since 2015, according to a news release announcing the event.

The performance will include holiday classics, as well as some of Perkins' original compositions.

Attendees can expect not only singing, but also dancing, singalongs and audience participation.

"Christmas has always been my favorite time of year. It's magical," Perkins said in the news release. "My family had a tradition of getting together each year and going to some sort of Christmas concert. I looked forward to that every year growing up, and it's why we've worked hard to create a fun night for the whole family to come together and enjoy."

Perkins, a native of Scranton, North Dakota, has seen her musical career take numerous turns. After moving to the Twin Cities, Perkins fronted "Scarlet Haze;" the band opened for Bon Jovi at the Target Center in Minneapolis in 2005.

Perkins, 42, has gained a name for herself as a rock, pop, blues and country singer, including in appearances on nationally televised shows. She was among the top five contestants, advancing to the semi-finals, in season six of the NBC show "The Voice."

Growing up surrounded by a family of musicians, Perkins began performing professionally at age 15. She joined the cast of the Medora Musical, a musical production in Medora, North Dakota, in 1999, just after graduating from high school. She performed several summers as a main act on the Medora Musical stage.

Perkins was selected to audition for "The Voice" season six in Los Angeles after producers saw a video of her singing Adele's "Someone Like You" on YouTube. Before being eliminated from the show in May 2014, she was part of the most tweeted-about moment in the history of a television show.

In 2013, she traveled with other musicians to entertain American military troops serving in the Middle East. Since then, she has traveled to entertain U.S. troops overseas an average of two times a year. She has also performed in sold-out venues across America with a variety of themed performances and tours.

In 2014, released her first single, "Fearless," which, in the first week following its release, placed in the top five on iTunes rock chart. The single qualified for the first round of the Grammy Awards "Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance" competition.

She's also built a career as a motivational speaker, teaming with EduTech on the "Positive Social Media Tour," visiting schools across the U.S. to discuss social media with students and give a live performance. The feedback she received from her presentations — encouraging students to follow their dreams, lead a fearless life, and make a positive impact on the world — led her to establish a nonprofit foundation, The Rising Star Foundation, to provide scholarships and opportunities for aspiring musicians.

The Empire Arts Center is at 415 DeMers Ave. For more information on Perkins' Christmas show and tour schedule, go to
