HINGHAM − Singer/songwriter Chelsea Berry will kick off the annual Dead of Winter Arts Series on Jan. 7 at Hingham Cemetery’s Ames Chapel.

A vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist, Berry has performed solo at Carnegie Hall and Boston’s House of Blues. She has released 10 albums and her music is regularly played on Sirius XM’s The Loft. Berry will be joined by Grammy-nominated pianist, singer and songwriter Matt Cusson.

The series will continue Feb. 2 with author Jabari Asim. His novel “Yonder” chronicles the intertwined lives of four enslaved Black people and was named one of the “100 Notable Books of 2022” by The New York Times.

Asim is a professor at Emerson College and the author of eight books for adults and 13 children’s books. He was an editor at at The Washington Post and has appeared on "The Colbert Report," the "Today" show and NPR’s "Morning Edition."

Author Alysia Abbott will close out the series March 4. Her book “Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father” was released in 2013 and is being adapted into a feature film starring Emilia Jones ("CODA"). During her talk, Abbott will describe having her life translated to the big screen and will show photos from the set.

The Dead of Winter series is put on by Hingham Cemetery's board of directors. Its aim is to present crowd-pleasing shows at affordable prices during a time of year when people need to shake off the doldrums.

Ames Chapel is at 12 South St. in Hingham. Admission to the events, which start at 7 p.m., costs $25 and includes wine, beer and hors d'oeuvres. To buy tickets, go to hinghamcemetery.org.
