Singing Flight Attendant Invites Passengers to Dump Masks as US Mandate Ends

A flight attendant and passengers on board a JetBlue flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Washington, DC, celebrated after the end of a mask mandate for public transit was announced on April 18.

Footage captured by Marc Geller shows the flight attendant walk down the aisle of the plane, telling passengers — through the medium of song — to throw their masks into the blue trash bag he was carrying.

US District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle said on Monday that the mask mandate exceeded the statutory authority of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The Transportation Security Administration said in a statement following the judgment that it would no longer enforce mask-wearing on public transportation and in transport hubs.

Federal officials had previously said the mandate would be in effect for commercial flights and in other transportation settings, including on buses, ferries, and subways, until at least May 3. Credit: Marc Geller via Storyful
