"You don't have to sing well, just have fun" is a motto for the owner of Lafayette's newest karaoke bar opening near the Acadiana Mall.

Jeramie Kinnerson, better known as "The King of Karaoke," is bringing his passion to a new home in Lafayette. He hopes The Stage Karaoke Bar brings out the inner performer in everyone.

Kinnerson has been singing karaoke and providing entertainment in Lafayette for the past 10 years. During that time, he founded Party Starters Karaoke Entertainment to work in bars across the city.

"When I got into karaoke, I was like 'man nobody's updating their music. Let's start our own karaoke business.' So we went to a place called El Sitio. The owner was telling us, 'You're gonna start next Wednesday, I have an opening.' and I was like, wait, we don't have any equipment. He said, 'If you really want to do this, make it happen.'"

From that point, Kinnerson has put his all into building an empire and is excited to have The Stage be a part of that legacy. He hopes that this inspires more people to step out of their comfort zone and into the spotlight. Each singer will be offered a free shot after their song.

The Stage Karaoke Bar will be open Friday through Monday with extended hours to be announced. They will offer yard games like giant Jenga and Connect 4. This summer, the venue will host outdoor karaoke.

The business is located at 5741 Johnston St., Suite B, Lafayette, next to GL's Mongolian Grill. The bar is set to open at 3 p.m. Jan. 21 with a meet and greet with the owner.
