2 injured in single-car wreck that caused slowdowns on I-95 north in Christiana

Two people were injured in a single-car crash on I-95 north at the Route 1 flyover by the Christiana Mall on Monday morning.

The wreck occurred just after 9:45 a.m., Christiana Fire Company call logs show. As of 10:30 a.m., two left lanes remained closed, according to the Delaware Department of Transportation. Traffic was getting by slowly.

All lanes of the interstate reopened around 11:15 a.m.

According to New Castle County Paramedics, the 75-year-old male driver and the 82-year-old female passenger were both trapped and had to be extricated by firefighters.

The man was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition. He had possible head and internal injuries, paramedics said. The woman was listed as "stable" but suffered "facial and chest trauma."

Delaware State Police are investigating the crash. It's not yet known what caused it.
