A Sioux Falls attorney and actuary has filed to run for the Sioux Falls City Council.

Tarek Maalouf will run for the open seat in the city's northeastern district, where Councilor Pat Starr is term limited. He filed his statement of organization late Tuesday afternoon.

According to Maalouf's press release, he was raised in a small town outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and moved to Sioux Falls in 2021 to work for Sammons Financial Group. He also volunteers at the State Theatre and serves as the secretary for the South Dakota Young Republicans.

"The things that drew me to Sioux Falls are the things I want to focus on maintaining as the Northeast’s next City Councillor: affordable housing, low crime, and a thriving downtown,” Tarek wrote in his release.

Maalouf is the second person to announce that they'll be running for one of the four council seats that will be open in the April 9, 2024 election, following Ryan Spellerberg's announcement earlier this week.
