Police were called around 2:30 a.m. Thursday to the 500 block of E 50th Street N for a stabbing. Bortnem allegedly was arguing with a male coworker before leaving.

He then came back and stabbed the 52-year-old man in the ear with a weapon Kooistra described as a "pick."

Bortnem left the scene, but was picked up later by a sheriff's deputy in northern Sioux Falls. He was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance, Kooistra said.
