A Sioux Falls marketer has announced she'll be one of the people running for the Sioux Falls City Council seat soon to be vacated by Pat Starr.

Miranda Basye announced her intent to run for the northeastern district's seat on Tuesday afternoon across various social media platforms. Her campaign website outlines public safety, infrastructure and parks and recreation as some of her top priorities.

"I remember waiting for the school bus on North Cliff Avenue next to a billboard when I first started school, and I just always felt safe and secure. I aspire for all our residents to feel safe just like I did when I was that little girl," Basye said in her release.

Her website lists MarketBeat CEO Matt Paulson as a supporter, as well as Tony Burke, who was the campaign chair for Dawn Marie Johnson's successful run for the Sioux Falls School Board.

Basye isn't the first person to announce their intent to run for the seat. Tarek Maalouf, a local attorney, filed to run for the northeast district seat earlier this month.

The city election is set for April 9, 2024. Four new councilors will be elected to the northeast, southwest, northwest and At-Large C seats.
