Sioux Falls Municipal Band McKennan Park performance canceled due to high heat
The Sioux Falls Municipal Band has canceled Thursday night's performance because of an excessive heat warning.
The concert was previously scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at McKennan Park. Sioux Falls is under the heart warning through 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls.
“The conditions are conducive to overexposure due to the extreme heat and can be detrimental to their performers,” the Washington Pavilion stated in a press release.
The performance will now be combined with Sunday’s final performance to complete the band's season. The show will be moved to 8 p.m. at the Mary W. Sommervold Hall at the Washington Pavilion instead.
The combined Sunday performance will now include pieces from Thursday's concert, celebrating the 125th anniversary of John Philip Sousa’s iconic march “Stars and Stripes Forever” and the grand finale lineup featuring a wide variety of music, including classics from the golden age of Broadway, traditional marches, and contemporary favorites.
Supporters and fans of the Sioux Falls Municipal Band are encouraged to stay safe, keep cool and join the band one last time Sunday for a memorable final performance.
The Sioux Falls Municipal Band is one of the oldest and most prestigious community bands in the Midwest and has been performing since 1919. Since 2021, The band has been managed by Washington Pavilion Management, Inc.
