Sioux Falls weather forecast calls for storms, up to 2 inches of rain

Storms are expected to roll into the Sioux Falls area early Tuesday morning, bringing as much as 2 inches of rain to the area, according to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls.

Sioux Falls will remain under a red flag warning until 8 p.m. Monday, as high winds and low humidity lead to an increased risk of outdoor fires.

Rainfall is expected to begin early Tuesday morning and continue through Wednesday morning, with between 1.25-2.75 inches of rain currently forecast.

The risk of severe thunderstorms in Sioux Falls is low according to the NWS, though forecasts could change for Tuesday depending on storm tracks and warming.

Tuesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 62. Breezy, with an east wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tuesday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 45. Breezy, with an east northeast wind 10 to 20 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Wednesday: Showers likely before 8 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 59. Breezy, with a northwest wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
