Sioux Valley records two wins, Groton Area one in weekend high school baseball

Sioux Valley, Groton and Hamlin Area each recorded South Dakota High School Baseball victories over the weekend.

Other area teams Redfield Area and Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern also played games over the weekend.

Sioux Valley wins two games

The Cossacks (2-0) posted wins over Elkton 12-2 and Hamlin Area 8-3 on Sunday.

Connor Gross not only posted the win on the mound against Elkton but also drove in three runs with two doubles and a single. Jack Opitz plated four runs with a double and a single and Tate Steffensen also doubles.

A seven-run rally with two outs in the top of the sixth helped Sioux Valley erase a 2-1 lead against Hamlin Area. The outburst included a two-run triple by Opitz, two-run double by Levi Loban and two-run single by Kyler Bezdichek.

Bret Milton and Opitz each finished 4-for-4. Christopher Moberg got the win.

Jacob Williams had two singles and Parker Boerger and Watson Grantham each doubled for Hamlin Area.

Hamlin 7, Elkton 4

Hamlin settled for a split of two games, after opening the day with a win over Elkton.

Gavin Maag smacked a two-run double, Jyler Tharaldsen doubled and singled and Jose Mahe and Riggs Prouty each doubled for Hamlin.

Groton Area 10, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland/Arlington 0

Bradin Althoff fired a one-hitter and also clubbed a pair of triples to lead Groton Area (1-1) to victory on Sunday.

Tate Larson, who doubled twice, and Dillon Abeln each finished with three hits and two RBIs. Logan Ringgenberg added a double and a two-run single for the Tigers.

Howard 3, Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern 0

Jack Neises tossed a two-hit shutout for Howard, which got run-scoring singles from Korbin Shumaker and Luke Koepsell during a three-run third inning on Sunday.

Devon and Noah Fischbach each singled for WIN.

Howard 7, Redfield Area 5

Howard led 7-1 after five innings and held on for the Saturday win over Redfield Area (3-1).

Seth Siebrecht collected two hits and Mason Whitley and Erik Salmen each laced doubles for Redfield Area.
