Sioux Valley's boys win LCC; Watertown-Aberdeen Central games postponed

VOLGA — Oliver Vincent and the second-rated Class A Sioux Valley Cossacks are the Lake Central Conference boys basketball champions again.

Vincent notched 27 points, nine rebounds and nine assists to spearhead a second-half surge that lifted Sioux Valley (17-1, 6-0 LCC) to a 73-48 win over Castlewood on Tuesday. Vincent became the school's all-time career assist leader with 512.

The Cossacks led only 36-28 at halftime before outscoring the Warriors (14-5) 20-11 in the third quarter and 17-9 in the fourth. Patrick Carey contributed 18 points, Alec Squires 10 points and 10 rebounds, Maxwell Engebretson six points and Hudsyn Ruesink seven rebounds.

Bryon Laue's 15 points and eight rebounds paced Castlewood. Lane Tvedt added 12 points and Quincy Thu six points and seven rebounds.

Other Boys Basketball

Milbank 56, Waverly-South Shore 47: The Bulldogs (11-6) pushed their winning streak to six games with 16 points from Joe Schulte; 13 points, six rebounds and four assists from Garrett Mertens; nine points and four steals from Justus Osborn; and seven points from Emmett Hanson. The Coyotes (8-9) received 19 points from Landon Maag, 10 points and eight rebounds from Grant Holman, 10 points from Owen Gilmour and six rebounds from Troy Kneeland.

Northwestern 73, Redfield 56: Quintin Fischbach poured in 26 points to lead the Wildcats (13-5), who also got 16 points and eight rebounds from Nathan Melius, 13 points from Lincoln Woodring and nine points from Chase Neiber. Nolan Gall scored 20 points, Mitchell Mack 18 and Jerron Haider eight for Redfield (8-10). Justin Ratigan hauled in 11 rebounds.

Chester Area 59, Arlington 40: Jovi Wolf's 21 points and Layke Wold's 15 paced Chester Area (9-11) to the Dakota Valley Conference win. Wolf added six rebounds, five steals and three assists. Kaden Steffensen finished with 10 points, Blake Madsen eight rebounds and Evan Fonseca seven for Arlington (2-16).

Sully Buttes 68, Sunshine Bible Academy 43: Wesley Wittler notched 22 points and Thomas Farries 11 for Sully Buttes (5-12). Tyler Marshall pitched in with nine rebounds and Landon Hepker six assists. Daniel Gerbracht recorded 14 points and six rebounds, Owan Watson 11 points and Parker Jones nine points for SBA (1-13)

Groton Area 45, Aberdeen Roncalli 22: The Tigers (12-4) took the Northeast Conference game with 14 points and nine rebounds from Tate Larson, 13 points from Lane Tietz and eight rebounds from Jacob Zak. Jayden Munroe's eight points topped Roncalli (9-10).

Warner 59, Wolsey-Wessington 51: Hunter Cramer's 32-point, five-rebound performance and Brodey Sauerwein's 17 points led Warner (12-7). Ricky Maurovic notched 16 points, Moshe Richmond 15 and Blaze Herdman 15 for Wolsey-Wessington (14-4).

Hitchcock-Tulare 43, Ipswich 36: TJ Salmen scored 15 points and Erik Salmen 10 for Hitchcock-Tulare (11-7). Ipswich (11-6) received 11 points from Trevor Heinz, nine from Chet Peterson and eight from Ian Beyers.

Scores: Standing Rock (N.D.) 70, McLaughlin 48; Mobridge-Pollock 58, Stanley County 52;Ellendale 51, Kidder County 17 (N.D.); Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 62, Lac qui Parle Valley 40 (Minn.); Canby 68, Minneota 57 (Minn.) and Dawson-Boyd 86, MACCRAY 50 (Minn.). No other details were reported.

Girls Basketball

Arlington 57, Chester Area 52: Nineteen points from Jolyssa Steffensen; 17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists from Addie Steffensen and 10 points from Jaelyn Huntimer helped the fifth-rated Class B Cardinals cap 16-4 regular season. Emery Larson's 22 points led Chester Area. Emmerson Eppard added 10 points and 11 rebounds and Katelyn Schut 10 and nine.

Redfield 55, Northwestern 49: Gracie Fast, Katei Rozell and Ashlyn Clausen had 12 points apiece and Ellie Evans 10 for Redfield (9-10). Fast and Chloe Zens also snared six rebounds. Ella Haven tallied 15 points and seven rebounds, Ashley Haven 14 and 10 and Adriana Ratigan 11 and 12 for Northwestern (12-6).

Sioux Valley 51, Castlewood 49: The Cossacks (13-6) won the Lake Central Conference game by getting 21 points from Isabelle Bloker and 15 from Landree Wilson. Mackenzie Everson produced 16 points, Maddie Horn 13 and Presley Knecht 12 for the Warriors (12-7).

Highmore-Harrold 44, Ipswich 33: Brooke Palmer notched 18 points and six rebounds, Kendall Cermak 10 points and seven rebounds, April Fallis eight points and Kenidy Effling six assists for Highmore-Harrold (6-13). Gabby Wald and Katie Bierman had 12 and 10 points, respectively, for SBA (4-14). Bierman also recorded five assists and Wald four steals.

Sully Buttes 59, Sunshine Bible Academy 22: Lydia Hill's 20 points and nine rebounds and Stevie Wittler's 13 points led the third-rated Class B Chargers (15-3). Allyson Wittler contributed eight points and Addison Chicoine eight rebounds. Sadie Konechne had eight points and Abby Hinman seven rebounds for SBA (1-15).

Scores: Colman-Egan 66, Iroquois-Lake Preston 39; Mobridge-Pollock 71, Stanley County 36; Estelline-Hendricks 52, Flandreau Indian School 30; Herreid-Selby Area 86, Potter County 39; and MACCRAY 68, Dawson-Boyd 58 (Minn.). No other details were reported.

Postponed/Cancelled Games

The Aberdeen Central at Watertown girls basketball and Watertown at Aberdeen Central boys basketball games were each postponed on Tuesday. The girls' game has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20 in Watertown and the boys' game for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Aberdeen.

Watertown's girls (9-8) visit Huron on Thursday and Aberdeen Central's girls (6-8) host Brookings on Friday. Watertown's boys (6-10) host Huron at 7 p.m. on Friday and Aberdeen Central's boys (3-10) play at Brookings on Friday.

Other postponed boys basketball games on Tuesday included Waubay-Summit at Leola-Frederick Area (Monday, Feb. 20 in Frederick); Deuel at Sisseton (moved to Friday), Wilmot at Tri-State (Monday, Feb. 20 in Rosholt), Miller at Faulkton Area, Tiospa Zina at Clark-Willow Lake (moved to Monday, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. in Clark), Great Plains Lutheran at Oldham-Ramona-Rutland. The Deubrook Area at Webster Area, Langford Area at Aberdeen Christian, Hamlin at Britton-Hecla and Oakes at Lisbon (N.D.) games were all cancelled.

Other postponed girls basketball games on Tuesday included, Miller at Faulkton Area, Langford Area at Aberdeen Christian (moved to Thursday) and Lac qui Parle Valley at Morris Area-Chokio Alberta, Minn. (moved to Thursday. The Hamlin at Britton-Hecla, Tiospa Zina at Clark-Willow Lake, Waubay-Summit at Leola-Frederick Area, Madison at Milbank, Deubrook Area at Webster Area, Madison at Milbank, Aberdeen Roncalli at Florence-Henry and Ashby at Tri-State games were cancelled.
