'Sip and savor' your way along Bucks County Wine Trail over two Sundays in August

If exploring the local wines of Bucks County is on your summer bucket list, then you’re in for a treat this August.

Bucks County has much to offer wine lovers with more than a dozen vineyards and tasting rooms spread out across its countryside. But with so many destinations, it can be hard to know where to start.

Over the first two Sundays in August, seven family-owned wineries will be offering a selection of locally made wines paired with small plates as part of the Bucks County Wine Trail's Summer Sip & Savor event, funded in part by a grant from Visit Bucks County.

“This event is more than just a tasting,” said Christine Carroll, co-founder of Crossing Vineyards and Winery and a founding member of the Bucks County Wine Trail.

“It offers people a chance to enjoy local food and wine together. It’s also an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of our wineries and vineyards during what is almost the peak time of year. We each have a distinct vibe and personality and they’re all enjoyable in their own way.”

The wine and food pairing event gives visitors a chance to travel to each of the wineries on a self-guided tour and enjoy expertly selected wines paired with unique menus developed for the event by each location.

Feed your appetite between sips with sweet and savory bites, including beef wellington bites, baked brie bites with berry compote, jalapeño and avocado ceviche and chocolate-dipped waffles at Bishop Estate Vineyard and Winery in Perkasie; bacon-wrapped scallops, mini Philly-style cheesesteak sliders and gourmet macarons at Sand Castle Winery in Erwinna, and skewered jerk chicken with mango coulis, bite-sized crab cakes with chipotle aioli and bite-sized Harvarti grilled cheese at Rose Bank Winery in Newtown.

Ticketholders can visit the listed wineries anytime from noon to 5 p.m. on their designated day:

Through events like this, Carroll hopes visitors will gain a greater appreciation for local wine.

“You get to meet the owners; you get to see the winemakers and where the wine is made. It puts it into context for people. They see the wine comes from us, from people like us, who grow the grapes. It’s a personal thing and people will get to experience it when they come,” said Carroll.

Tickets can be purchased for individual days at $70 for Aug. 7 and $80 for Aug. 14. Combo tickets for both days are also available for $125. Advanced purchase is required as quantities are limited. Must be 21 or over to attend.
