Sip and stroll: 30+ wineries and vineyards within a two-hour drive of Charlotte

North Carolina is home to hundreds of wineries and vineyards offering both classic and custom blends of wine, and many are just a short drive from Charlotte.

Fun fact: The state has actually had a big impact on America’s wine industry. According to the NC Wine & Grape Council, the grapevine was first introduced and cultivated in the United States in North Carolina, and by the 20th century, the state was the leading wine-producing region in the nation.

From the mountains to the coast, North Carolina wineries and vineyards offer serene places to sip, stroll, eat — and even stay overnight. Luckily for us, there are several within driving distance of Charlotte, offering tours, tastings, live music and more.

Here’s a list of some of the wineries and vineyards within a two-hour drive of the city:

Cauble Creek Vineyard

Location: 700 Cauble Farm Rd, Salisbury, NC 28147

Distance from Charlotte: 42.5 miles

Hours: Thursday-Saturday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday 1-6 p.m.

Cauble Creek Vineyard is a family-owned vineyard and winery in Rowan County specializing in Muscadine wines. You can also check out locally made food products and gift items.

Childress Vineyards

Location: 1000 Childress Vineyards Rd, Lexington, NC 27295

Distance from Charlotte: 58.9 miles

Hours: Monday-Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Childress Vineyards, opened by NASCAR team owner Richard Childress, has over 70 acres of vineyards with over 30 wines. The vineyard offers wine flights, including mixed wines, mimosa wine flights and slushie wine flights. You can also wine and dine with a brunch pairing experience.

Davesté Vineyards

Location: 155 Lytton Farm Rd, Troutman, NC 28166

Distance from Charlotte: 37.2 miles

Hours: Thursday-Sunday 12-8 p.m.

Davesté Vineyards is a 60 acre winery and vineyard about 40 minutes outside of Charlotte. The Lake Norman area winery serves its own wine, flights and craft beer for those who want to book a private tour or tasting.

Divine Llama Vineyards

Location: 4126 Divine Llama Ln, East Bend, NC 27018

Distance from Charlotte: 86.3 miles

Hours: Thursday-Saturday 12-6 p.m.; Sunday 1-6 p.m.

Just as the name suggests, Divine Llama Vineyards is a spot for wine and llamas. Spend the day hiking with llamas, then enjoy a wine flight at the largest llama farm in the Southeast.

Dennis Vineyards

Location: 24043 Endy Rd, Albemarle, NC 28001

Distance from Charlotte: 47.1 miles

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday 1-6 p.m.

Dennis Vineyards, located about an hour away from Charlotte, was Stanly County’s first winery. The family-owned winery offers a tasting room paired with live music, food trucks and other events.

Dobbins Creek Vineyards

Location: 4430 Vineyard View Ln, Hamptonville, NC 27020

Distance from Charlotte: 74 miles

Hours: Friday 12-5 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m.

Dobbins Creek Vineyards is a dog-friendly vineyard about 1.5 hours outside of Charlotte in Yadkin County. If you want to picnic on the estate, pack your favorite snacks to pair alongside some of the many wines available from the vineyard.

Douglas Vineyards

Location: 7696 Freeze Rd, Kannapolis, NC 28081

Distance from Charlotte: 27.1 miles

Hours: Friday-Saturday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m.

Douglas Vineyards, nestled in Kannapolis, opened in 2015. Stop by for a tasting, grab a bottle to go or enjoy a glass while listening to live music every week.

Elkin Creek Vineyard

Location: 318 Elkin Creek Mill Rd, Elkin, NC 28621

You can sip on your favorite type of wine by the glass, bottle or a flight at Elkin Creek Vineyard. The vineyard also offers creekside cabin rentals and a kitchen featuring made-to-order, brick oven pizzas open every Sunday.

Grassy Creek Vineyard

Grassy Creek Vineyard is a great spot for wine lovers who want to visit for a day or stay overnight. The child and pet-friendly vineyard is housed in a historic dairy barn at Klondike Farm with the tasting room in a converted horse stable. It has several hiking trails for guests.

Golden Road Vineyards

Location: 119 Wine Wy, State Rd, NC 28676

Distance from Charlotte: 82.9 miles

Hours: Friday 2-7 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 12-6 p.m.

Golden Road Vineyards is a 25 acre vineyard with 5 acres of grapevines. Sip on your favorite glass of wine inside the tasting room or seated by one of the outdoor fire pits on the estate.

JOLO Winery and Vineyards

Location: 219 Jolo Winery Ln, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041

Distance from Charlotte: 96 miles

Hours: Thursday-Sunday 11 a.m.- 8 p.m.

JOLO Winery and Vineyards, located in Pilot Mountain, offers wine by the glass, bottle and even flights. You can taste award-winning wines in its tasting room or full-service restaurant with wine pairings. Reservations are required for tastings and dining, and can be booked online.

Jones von Drehle Vineyards & Winery

Location: 964 Old Railroad Grade Rd, Thurmond, NC 28683

Distance from Charlotte: 85 miles

Jones von Drehle Vineyards & Winery is a family owned and operated winery known for its dry, European-style wine. The local winery is dog- and family-friendly with tastings and live music.

Laurel Gray Vineyards

Medaloni Cellars

Stroll through Medaloni Cellars while taking in the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The 22-acre family-friendly/dog-friendly vineyard offers tastings and tours along with food trucks onsite from April through November.

MenaRick Vineyards

Old North State Winery

Old North State Winery is a popular destination for wine lovers in downtown Mount Airy. Rather than a vineyard, the winery is located in a former hardware store on Main Street. Stop by for a group tour or tasting, then continue the fun with a paired meal.

Piccione Vineyards

Location: 2364 Cedar Forest Rd, Ronda, NC 28670

Piccione Vineyards offers award-winning wine produced from fruit grown on-site by the glass, bottle and by tasting flight. Raylen Vineyards

Rocky River Vineyards, a 45-acre vineyard in Cabarrus County, is about 40 minutes outside of Charlotte. Grab a group of friends and enjoy a sit-down tasting with a wine flight or charcuterie board.

Round Peak Vineyards

Location: 765 Round Peak Church Rd, Mt Airy, NC 27030

Distance from Charlotte: 92.5 miles

Round Peak Vineyards is a 12-acre vineyard nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition to a tasting room, the vineyard also has dog-friendly rental cabins that can accommodate up to eight people. Plus, rentals include a wine or beer tasting.

Serre Vineyards

Serre Vineyards is a 70-acre vineyard offering wines and views of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The vineyard offers a variety of wine tasting room experiences, available by appointment only, and two overnight stays for those who want to explore through the vineyard a little longer.

Shadow Line Vineyards

Location: 2550 Shadow Line Ln, Granite Falls, NC 28630

Shadow Line Vineyards is a family owned and operated winery that officially opened its doors in 2016. You can grab a glass of a wine to enjoy in its tasting room or while kicking back on the porch or patio with a farm pond view.

Shadow Springs Vineyard
