Saks Fifth Avenue’s annual display is the hallmark of Manhattan’s holiday traditions, and this year marks a very memorable moment in the luxury brand’s history. On November 23rd, Saks hosted their renowned light show and window unveiling at their New York Flagship, along with a remarkable performance by Sir Elton John who sang his 1970 classic, “Your Song.” The special production took place in celebration of Saks’ partnership with the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Rocket Fund. “Saks is proud to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation and partner with Sir Elton John, who shares our passion for self expression through creativity and fashion,” says Saks CEO Marc Metrick.
Established in 1992, The Elton John AIDS Foundation has become a global force in combating the AIDS epidemic, and recently the non-profit launched a $125 million campaign called the Rocket Fund which aims to eradicate AIDS by the year 2030. Saks’ donation of $1 million to the Rocket Fund includes $500k of proceeds from an eclectic collection of products ranging from ready-to-wear designs to home decor items, all co-curated by Sir Elton John himself. Participating designers include Gucci, Versace, and Valentino to name a few.
“Saks’ generous support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Rocket Fund will help fuel our programs to bring an end to the stigma and discrimination that prevent so many people from accessing compassionate and life-saving HIV care,” says Sir Elton John.
A glimpse of the collection will be showcased in three of Saks' Flagship windows until January 3rd, featuring a bespoke window dedicated to Gucci, which exclusively designed Sir Elton John’s costumes for his final tour, Farewell Yellow Brick Road.
