Six from Berks earn All-State football honors in Class 3A

Dec. 29—Wyomissing's J'ven Williams will begin his college career as an early enrollee at Penn State next month.

But the 6-5, 290-pound offensive lineman isn't quite finished with high school yet, at least not when it comes to earning honors.

Williams was a repeat selection on the Pennsylvania Football Writers' Class 3A All-State team, one of six Berks players, including four Spartans, to make the team announced Thursday.

Joining Williams are Schuylkill Valley running back Dominic Giuffre, Wyomissing linebackers Ryker Jones and Matthew Kramer, Berks Catholic defensive back Josiah Jordan and Wyomissing defensive back Drew Eisenhower.

Williams played guard in Wyomissing's Wing-T offense and his ability to pull and get out in front helped the Spartans average 330.1 rushing yards and 396.1 total yards per game.

Wyomissing (13-1) won its fourth straight District 3 Class 3A title and advanced to the PIAA Class 3A semifinals.

Giuffre, a 5-11, 165-pound junior, ran for 1,546 yards and 27 touchdowns on 191 carries (8.1 yards per carry) and had 15 catches for 281 yards and three TDs in helping the Panthers qualify for the District 3 playoffs. He ran for 310 yards and four touchdowns, including one on a 96-yard run, on 29 carries in a 41-34 win over Hamburg.

Jones, a 6-0, 190-pound junior, had a team-leading 84 tackles, a fumble recovery and three sacks.

Kramer, a 6-1, 215-pound senior, had 37 tackles, including two sacks, and a fumble recovery. He also blocked an extra point that proved crucial in the Spartans' PIAA Class 2A quarterfinal win over Danville.

Eisenhower, a 5-10, 190-pound senior, finished with 37 tackles, including one sack, and four interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.

Those three helped the Spartans allow just 9.2 points per game.

Jordan, a 6-0, 170-pound senior, had 51 tackles, six interceptions and blocked a field goal for the Saints, who won the Eastern Conference Class 3A championship.

Central quarterback Jeff Hoenstine was voted Player of the Year for the second straight season. Matt Humbert, who led Belle Vernon to the PIAA title, was voted Coach of the Year.

The Class 1A and Class 2A teams also were released Thursday.

In Class 2A, Southern Columbia's Braeden Wisloski was the Player of the Year, and Westinghouse's Donta Green was Coach of the Year.

In Class 1A, Alex Erby of Steel-High was Player of the Year, Steel-High's Andrew Erby was coach of the Year.

The Class 4A, Class 5A and Class 6A teams will be announced Friday.
