Six new COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota

PIERRE, S.D. — Following are the South Dakota Department of Health COVID-19 case rates, deaths, hospitalizations and vaccinations as of Friday, May 28. Because all data is preliminary, some numbers and totals may change from one day to the next.

Statewide case rates

* NEW CASES: 57 (seven-day daily average: 49)

* TOTAL ACTIVE CASES: 391

* TOTAL CASES: 124,162

* TOTAL RECOVERED: 121,761

* DAILY TEST POSITIVITY RATE: 13.2%

Hospitalizations, deaths

TOTAL HOSPITALIZATIONS: 7,588

DEATHS, NEWLY REPORTED: 6

Vaccinations

INITIAL DOSE ADMINISTERED (IF 2-DOSE VACCINE): 350,416, total: 54.3% of population*

FULLY VACCINATED: 321,522, total: 49.2% of population

*Vaccine total based on state distribution. Percentage includes vaccines given to South Dakota residents through federal programs, including IHS and VA.
