Several dead as quake hits Albania

Rescue workers are desperately searching through rubble in Albania, after a deadly earthquake struck near its capital city in the early hours of Tuesday (November 26).

It's the most powerful quake to hit the country in decades.

Several buildings have collapsed - burying residents in the rubble.

Local media are reporting that one of the victims died cradling her grandson, who they say survived the disaster.

A Reuters witness described residents fleeing from apartment buildings in the capital Tirana, some carrying babies.

Power was down in several neighborhoods, as aftershocks continue to rock the city.

The 6.4 magnitude quake was felt across the Balkans and in southern Italy.
