Six dead in two-vehicle crash near Elk City

At least six people died as a result of a crash involving two vehicles near Elk City in western Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

The cause of the crash, which occurred Tuesday at the intersection of Route 66 and State Highway 34, is still under investigation.

The first vehicle, a 2015 Toyota Sienna, contained a driver and seven passengers. Six of the passengers died at the scene, including a juvenile.

Another juvenile passenger was taken to OU Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the Toyota, who was released from a local hospital with arm injuries, was arrested Tuesday on a complaint of first-degree manslaughter and booked into the Beckham County jail at 8:04 p.m.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 2021 Ford F-250, was not injured.

Names of the deceased have been withheld pending next of kin notification.
