Oct. 20—Over Greenville High School's homecoming weekend at least six graduating classes celebrated reunions.

While members of the classes of 1973, 1983, 1993, 2003 and 2013 all sat together, mostly wearing matching T-shirts or jerseys at the Lions' victorious homecoming game last Friday and gathered to reminisce in some way shape or form — the odd class out, the Class of 1988 made a full weekend out of the occasion.

After many of them attended their old alma mater's pep rally last Thursday, the Class of 1988 had a busy Friday of roaming the halls of their former campus, tailgating and watching the game. But they also made a point of paying tribute to 35 of their classmates who have passed away over the years.

"To begin our 35th Reunion, we the Class of '88 had a biodegradable 'dove' balloon release for all of our classmates who have passed away and prayed together. We decided on specifically on biodegradable balloons, because a lot of people in our class were really environmentally conscious," Carissa Tarver said. "This was truly a wonderful moment."

The 35 deceased classmates the group was aware of included: Angie Bettis, Shannon Black, Kelly Cleghorn, Chris Cole, Donia Copeland, Julie Ellis, Everette Pool, Laura Jones, Todd Krodle, Kevin Oblander, Becky Martinez, Angie Powell, Tyrena Pruitt, Shawn Edwards, Henry Smith, Alex Harding, Cathy Champion, LaWanda Grisby, Wendall Gowin, Fred Jackson, Corey Randall, Billy Wilson, Sally Brookins, Kevin Heath, Pam Brierton, Moleta McDonald, Vicki Keen, Diane Talley, John Houston, Edward Smith, Kenneth Carmichael, Melissa Emmons, James Sukenik, Julie Black and Tim Lehman.

The Greenville High School Class of 1988 concluded their weekend with an evening gathering at Landon Winery, to which they invited their friends who graduated in 1987 and 1988.

Another graduating classes that had a special night homecoming weekend was the Class of 1973, who enjoyed a performance of classic rock hits by two of their classmates, Steve Combs and Mike Castleberry, at the Tin Cup Tavern in Campbell.
